First Artist Bank (FAB)
First Artist Bank (FAB) is a global creative community bank built by artists for artists that is being launched in the 3rd quarter of 2014. FAB is seeking help from the creative community to help design their logo - a key piece of artwork that will be used on all of FAB’s branding, including signage, letterhead, website, mobile app and bank cards.

Background
Who’s behind FAB? Artist and musician Dave Stewart founded the bank together with seasoned banking executive Michael Philipp and an incredible team of specialists from the worlds of art, finance and technology. They believe that art makes the world go around and are dedicated to reimagining what a bank can be for artists of all types.

Response
The concept is to create something a lot less corporate than the stereotypical bank logos because FAB bank is taking a step away from that stereotype of bank and creating something more focused on the artist than. Because of this I've decided to go for something more abstract because the brief doesn't give much in terms of direction or requirements. The only thing I could think of was to illustrate the banks name in some form of logo. I decided to focus on the letter F to represent the company but also banking.

I instantly thought of information and graphs, the idea of creating an F out of something that relates to the banking world. My response was to use line graphs and layer them 3 high to form an F. I constantly played with the F making ever so slight adjustments to height and width of lines in an attempt to form something that resembles an F and line graph.

Below are the 2 contenders for final logo, I have added pattern to some of the panels to add more depth to the logo but also to represent the word 'FAB', whenever I think fab I think of the 80's and patterns. I really like this logo because it is both concept and aesthetics working together in unison. Throughout this module my briefs have been mainly concept driven whereas throughout the entirety of this brief both have been just as important.

Sticking with the graph theme I again attempted to create an F, this time somewhat less successful. I felt these F's were pretty flat, simple and slightly boring.

Final submission

The logo works well in context, I was unsure about it on a flat white background but now it has been mocked up with stationary I'm happy with the way it has turned out.

Evaluation
This brief was taken on to make up the numbers but I'm glad I took it on because it's something out of my comfort zone, I don't normally enjoy creating logos but I found this one enjoyable even though it was annoying and stressful at times because of the lack of direction and guidance from the brief. The brief suggests that they don't really know what they're looking for so it made it difficult to start but once the ball was rolling I enjoyed it.
